The Perfect Curl

If you have naturally curly or wavy hair, you probably spend all your time blow drying and straightening.

But let’s face it; in summer its far to hot to be slaving away in front of a mirror, armed with hair dryers and straightners.

Unfortunately though, having a natural curl to your hair is not as easy as just using the ‘Wash and go’ approach.

So here is the Beautybible guide to help you perfect your curl.

Firstly you must start with a good cut, tell your stylist that you want layers that must work with your hair whether you choose to go curly or straight.

Curly/wavy hair tends to be either slightly or very dry, so it is important to wash your hair with a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner.

Once you have washed off your conditioner or treatment, give your hair a blast of cool water, this is great whether you have straight or curly hair as it helps to smooth down the hair cuticles and enhances shine.

When using the towel to dry your hair do not rub as this will encourage frizz, instead just pat and squeeze the hair to get rid of excess water.

As previously mentioned curly/wavy hair is prone to dryness so use a leave in conditioner on the mid to ends of the hair and then use a wide tooth comb to part and comb your hair to get rid of tangles. Do not use a brush as this will create unwanted frizz.

Next you need to run a product through the hair that will define the curl. It is best to avoid mousse or gel, this will make the hair crunchy and appear un-natural. The best product I have found is the ‘Curls Rock Amplifier’ by Tigi.

Once the product is scrunched in the hair, leave it to dry naturally.

Lastly as the hair dries it will have some frizzy areas so use a defining wax for shine, use a very small amount, warm in hands and spread through the hair. You can use a serum for some shine if there is not much frizz but wax tends to abolish frizz altogether. Keep this in your bag for emergency touch ups throughout the day or if it rains!
