There’s nothing more attractive than a well manicure hands, and what better way to show them off than perfectly painted nails.

This week, Amber from Verdo Nails, shares her top tips on perfecting your polish application. It’s not as hard as you think!

Top Tips for Perfect Nails

Once you’ve shaped your nails and pushed back your cuticles, you want to clean your nail plate. This will take off any oils etc and make your polish last longer and go on better.

To clean your nail plates put some nail polish remover on a nail wipe and scrub your nails.

Once you’ve done this it’s time to get painting.

Roll the bottle of polish between your hands, never shake it! My shaking the bottle you will create air bubbles that will affect the quality of your polish.

You ALWAYS want to use a base coat.  Not only does it help your polish last longer, it protects your nails and will help your polish go on smooth and evenly.

When it comes to applying your polish, you want to take off a lot of the excess off your brush. This will stop too much going onto your nail and flooding your cuticle.

Swipe a stripe of polish down the middle of your nail from cuticle to tip before following it with colour on either side of the first stripe.

This guarantees that your nails have more polish in the center rather than on the sides, where the product can pool and roll off of your nails onto your skin.

Start with your pinky finger and work your way out to your thumb. That way you are less likely to damage your work.

Always use two coats of nail polish, as the first coat usually goes on quite wishy washy. It’s the second coat which gives you that beautiful colour you’re after.

And finally, finish off with a good topcoat.  This helps give you that glossy look and helps seals your polish.

If you do get a little bit of polish in your cuticle or on your skin take a toothpick and run it along your cuticle, this will help clean up any cuticle flooding.

Most of all take your time, and practice makes perfect.
