The skin under your arms is one of the most sensitive regions of your body and an area that often gets neglected. Rashes, bumps and irritation are caused by the dense population of sweat glands and the intimate relationship between your underarm and your razor. So, next time you’re about to hit up the chemist for a little deo for the BO, take note of these tips.
Anti-perspirant or plain deodorant?
Your body sweats in response to certain things like physical activity, stress, anxiety and so on, so it’s important to know the difference between a plain deo and an anti-perspirant. The plain variety will only mask the smell of body odour, while an anti-perspirant gets to the root of the problem and stops you from sweating. Choose an anti-perspirant and you won’t have to worry about offending colleagues in the lift.
Stick, spray or roll-on?
This is entirely up to you, but generally, the best results come from a direct application like a stick or roll-on. Don’t discount the aerosol though, spray-on deodorants are perfect if you want a quick spritz and they’re less likely to leave that white graffiti on your brand new LBD.
Women’s or men’s deodorant?
Before you go reaching for your BF’s deo, you need to know that women’s and men’s formulas are essentially the same strength. Men’s deodorant may have a few more active ingredients but this is because they sweat more and unlike us, generally don’t shave, wax or zap hair in that area. The main difference? Fragrance. So make the switch if you prefer a musky scent to floral notes.
Perfumed or unscented?
Think about the type of fragrance or other scented products you wear before making your selection. If misting perfume is a part of your beauty ritual, stick to an unscented variety to prevent a clash. Don’t be alarmed by a fragrance-free deo, it will still keep you dry and odour-free leaving your signature scent to steal the show.
