Pure, chemical-free and highly active, Sans is a new generation in beauty: a collection of products designed to renew the texture and appearance of your skin and hair. What is your background within the beauty industry?
I have spent the last 22 years in the beauty industry, firstly working as a stylist and setting up our salon 15 years ago with my husband Stephen.
How did Sans come about?
It came about after working closely with a multitude of brands, products and ingredients, and seeing a huge gap missing within the hair and beauty industry. I was also inspired to create a range of intelligent products for the new generation consumer.
It also stems from having a passion for science, health and the environment, and realising that exciting things could happen when science was pushed within the boundaries of nature.
What is it about natural skin care that’s so important to you?
Its more about being discerning about products, even certain natural ingredients can be extremely harmful and toxic.
How did you come up with the name?
Initially when I came up with the idea, it was an acronym from the words Sustainable And Natural Skincare with the by-product – Sans – meaning without. The name communicates so many aspects of the brand, is simple and grow to love it more and more.
Do you feel or see a difference when using Sans products?
Absolutely. Initially with hydration regarding skin and shine and manageability with the hair collection, however, the longer term results are what I have been blown away with. There have been significant reparative effects concerning people with problematic skin conditions i.e. dermatitis, eczema and irritated and oily scalps. I knew this would happen however not to the extreme level it has. Skin texture from frequent use with the skin products is also quite remarkable too.
What are some positive changes you would like to see in the skincare industry?
Accountability. Also where economics doesn’t win over quality.
How does the packaging fit in with the Sans concept?
Right from the start, environmental impact was part of the design process. We wanted to limit unnecessary packaging by keeping it uncluttered and simple. We chose PETG, which is the most recyclable and highest quality plastic available today. We also reuse our glass packaging from our professional only line and have come up with some cute recycle ideas for the glass packaging and tins which we are about to launch online. We are also currently investigating 100% biodegradable packaging made from recycled stone from old demo’d buildings which resembles a plastic. All our marketing and promotional info is on environmental stock using vegetable dyes and inks….
What are your favourite products in the range?
That’s a tough one… the Nourishing Hydrating Ultra+ for your hair. It took me ages to formulate this product. It is so rich, luxurious and nourishing. Its crammed full of phyto lipids, Baobab and Hybiscus extracts! Also the regenerative Cream as it contains the really rare omega 7, which is the closest thing next to your own natural sebum so the skin recognises it easily. It also has high levels of vitamin A and E to normalise cell function, work on skin texture and elasticity. It is also loaded with Tocotrienols and antioxidants to prevent cell damage and promote skin health.
What does beauty mean to you?
It’s more about someone’s spirit and their generosity towards life and people. Beauty is definitely not in perfection – however, depends what your take on perfection is!
