Karen Murrell is the founder and creator of a self titled skincare and make-up range. With a proven track record in health and beauty, Murrell has created an exquisite range of certified organic skincare and natural lipsticks that are simply must have products.

What does your job involve and what are your passions?
My job involves designing and creating new products for the range, sourcing ingredients, developing the packaging and everything else, right through to marketing, working with my national & international distributors & buyers, media and customers. It’s a very varied role and I love it!

What’s your earliest makeup memory?
My Nana Gwen would keep her nail polishes in the fridge, and as a treat she would let me paint my nails if I was good. As a result, I could paint both hands with no smudges before I was 4!

What are your top five indulgences?
At present, my new home and the furniture and art I’ve bought for it! I love shoes and clothes, and they have featured high on my list. Of course, these things change as life revolves.

Who is your beauty icon?
Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, local girl whom has kept up with the worlds best!

What are your must have beauty products?
I can’t live without a cleanser and a good moisturiser – I use my own (Pure Honesty and Absolute Luxury) and also every week I treat myself to a body scrub. Body exfoliation is important for healthy skin and I’ve found my jeans slide on better for it!

Biggest hair/makeup disaster you’ve had?
Once, I tried lightening my hair blonde! It was supposed to be a golden blonde hue that went very… yellow! Not a good look for me and definitely the biggest disaster!

What are your thoughts on cosmetic surgery - would you? Have you?
No, I am a “take me as I am” girl! I believe each line or mark tells a story. My lines are called beauty lines – every scar tells a story!

What is your top beauty tip?
I have hundreds! But right now, I’m using my lipstick as a blusher! Yes, it works beautifully! Also, don’t be afraid of using oil – it’s good for you. Especially if you use as a moisturiser to your skin after you shower!

What defines beauty to you?
A big smile!
