With Mothers Day just around the corner we thought it was the perfect time to share with you just what mum taught us about beauty...
Moisturise, moisturise, moisturise! But of course I never listened to her and in hindsight I definitely should have.

My mum is total no-fuss when it comes to beauty. She’s got simple tastes when it comes to make-up and skin care and prefers a bare face. The one thing she did impart on me is the importance of taking care of your skin in the sun. While she is a sun worshipper from way back, she regrets her relaxed attitude to sun safety. Consequently I have been slip, slop, slapped and wrapped since I was a wee thing. So while I might have very pale, Twilight-esque skin these days, I think I have escaped without that dreaded sun damage. Thanks Mum!

I would love to say I learnt everything I know about health and beauty from my wonderful mother, but, I didn't. Mum has never been overly girly or into makeup, hair or skincare. It's more a case of me teaching her! My grandmother however, is, at 73 years old, a masterpiece. Separate and specialised day and night creams "don't forget your neck and décolletage", serums and eye creams. "a little blush or lipstick can brighten your whole face". I started experimenting later than most girls, I didn't really wear makeup until seventh form, and no matter what trends I follow or fads I try, my base is always the same, tried and true by my gran. And now, by my mum because I remind her to!!

My mum taught me that crimping your hair is never ok! My entire childhood was spent with kinky crimped tresses that I hated. Granted, it was the 90’s and everybody was doing it, but really, what was she thinking? What’s even more frightening is that hair crimping seems to be making a come back, it’s been seen down many a catwalk this season – all I can say is it’s one trend I certainly will not be reliving.

My mum has taught me so much about beauty, I could go on forever! Do the eyes or the lips, never both, have at least 3 perfumes for different occasions and moods, never walk out the door with wet hair, chipped nails or visible bra straps ("tacky!"), and blend, blend, blend! ...but probably the most important thing she's ever taught me is that nothing looks more gorgeous than fresh faced and natural. I have lots of little freckles and I used to loathe them when I was younger, but she taught me to embrace them rather than hide them under mountainous layers of foundation. "Marilyn Monroe had freckles!" she'd always say when I complained about them. She taught me that beauty products are a god send but should be used to enhance what
nature gave me rather than to try to change the things I don't like about myself. "Be a first rate version of yourself, not a second rate version of someone else!" Best advice I've ever heard. Amelia Haysom – Fresh PR
The one thing about beauty my mum taught me that always sticks in my mind was to never go anywhere without your lipstick/gloss on – even if you’re wearing no other makeup it brightens up your face and stops you looking washed out. Every time I’m guilty of popping out of the house without lippy on, I can’t help but hear my mum’s voice saying “put your lipstick on, you never know who you might see!

My mum taught me to invest in my skin from a young age, get good hair colour and hand cream, and unlike the most common beauty tip to drink lots of water, she taught me that generally wine or chocolate fixes everything else!

My Mum taught me the importance of eyeliner...having Alopecia I didn't have eyelashes and with the eyes being the window to the soul and all they should be defined! No lashes meant no definition, I was hesitant at first but from the moment I created a false lash line with a MAC waterproof liner I was hooked! I have never gone sans liner since.
