If you have tried everything under the sun to obtain luscious, curly eyelashes: it might be time to consider an eyelash perm...The average woman has any number of false lashes, mascaras, curlers and lash builders in her eyelash arsenal, because lets face it, over the past century what constitutes a beautiful set of eyes has become much more exaggerated. And now there is a new weapon in the battle for smashing peepers, well, not so much new as more well known - the eyelash perm.
If you are having a flashback to smelly solutions and curlers, rest assured, this procedure is done at salons all over the world and might just be the solution those with straight, non-descript lashes are seeking.
An eyelash curling session takes around 40 minutes and involves a series of rubber rods (the bigger the rod, the less dramatic the curl) glued to the base of the eyelid. Then each one of the 100-150 lashes that border each upper lid are curled over the rod. A perming solution is then applied and the rod and lashes are plastic wrapped for several minutes, before being treated with a neutraliser and conditioner. To conclude the process, an eye-make up remover breaks up the glue and the rod is removed - a quick flush with distilled water and you are ready to flirt!
The effect should last around 6 weeks, and prices vary - so shop around. And while at home DIY kits are available, it is always a good idea to get it done by a professional.
