Whether you're driving to a family reunion, taking the train for a weekend getaway, or jetting halfway around the world in search of the sun, there's no question that travelling is stressful. And trying to look good while you're travelling is pretty much impossible.

But follow these top tips when it comes to travelling and you will arrive looking beautiful no matter how far you have come.

1. Moisturise
Apply an intense moisturiser the night before you are going to fly. This will help increase hydration in your skin before you're exposed to the dehydrating effects of cabin pressure.

2. Forgo the Foundation
Skip foundation on the day of your trip, and instead wear only moisturiser. Then before you land, apply a tinted moisturiser for a fresh, healthy look.

3. Add Some Shimmer
Does traveling leave you feeling queasy? Perk up a tired or dull complexion with a soft shimmer powder or cream. Stroke it lightly on the tops of cheeks, bridge of the nose, and lips for an instant pick-me-up no matter how tired (or ill) you feel. Or use a combination of cream blush and lip balm to add colour and moisture without dehydrating skin.

4. Chill Out Puffy Eyes
To reduce under-eye puffiness after a long trip put crushed ice in a washcloth and apply it under the eyes. It's an automatic wake-up call that makes you look and feel immediately fresher.

5. Perk Up Your Peepers
Watching back-to-back in-flight movies, or reading that paperback novel cover to cover, can also cause you to arrive at your destination with red, watery, not-so-attractive eyes. To avoid, don't forget to bring eyedrops. They will lubricate and soothe eyes if you're reading or watching a movie, and refresh and wake up your eyes after a nap.

6. Banish Bright Nail Polish
Skip the brightly coloured nail polish when traveling. It chips too easily and leaves you looking unfinished. Instead buff and polish nails to a natural sheen for a clean, crisp look, or apply a neutral, sheer colour that won't call attention if it does chip.

7. Slather on the Hand Cream
Never leave home without a tube of your favorite hand cream, and use it liberally throughout your trip. This will not only keep your hands from drying out, but in the event you need to wash them, it can help counter the effects of harsh commercial-grade soaps found in public restrooms.

8. Get the Grease Out
To help cope with greasy hair that you can’t wash, use a dry shampoo. Dry shampoo will help clean, deodorize and add volume to hair. Just be sure to have a hairbrush handy so you can brush out any extra powder.
