Over-indulgence and late nights can be taxing. Fortunately there are some fabulous products on the market that can help aid your recovery and have you looking radiant even when you feel like death. You need to remember a hangover is mostly dehydration, so if you can, try match your alcohol intake with glasses of water. It’s also good to leave four panadol on the bedside table before you go out: two for before you go to sleep and two for when you wake up.
Sadly no magic pill can do anything for a bleak and lack luster hangover face, but never fear, help is at hand. The make-up guru John Gustafson, who has worked on many celebrity morning-after faces, says: "The first thing you need to do is get a drink of water to the skin. It will be as thirsty as you are. Al hydrating mask can also be applied while you're in the shower." The Bernard Cassiere Hemp Bamboo Hydrating
Mask is amazing.
Eyes seem to suffer the most from hard partying. For redness, there's nothing better than cold, tea bags and clear eyes. For bags under the eyes, try Dermalogica Total Eye Care, gentle alpha hydroxy acids smooth while firming plant extracts retexturise the skin, helping to reduce the appearance of puffiness.
I'd recommend a rich moisturiser on hungover days such as Gingi Deep Cellular Hydrating Moisturiser. If you still don't look human, a boost from Clarins Beauty Flash Balm or a splash of Jane Iredale’s Pommist Facial Spritz should hopefully do the trick.
Its best not to try hiding a hangover with too much make-up as a dehydrated face will only look worse weighed down by foundation and other heavy products. But if makeup is a must
for you, start with a primer like Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer followed with a very light, tinted moisturiser, my favourite is MAC Studio Moisture Tint mixed with a little MAC Strobe Cream. Skip the eyeliner as it will only make your already tired eyes look smaller, instead go crazy on the mascara, and if you have one use a heated eyelash curler for big, Bambi eyes. Finish with a little blush and a nude lipgloss.
For hair thats standing on end and crunchy from last nights hairspray I reccommend a good wash with the System Professional Hydro range. However if your short on time having slept through your alarm opt for a dry shampoo. Fudge do an amazing one that will instantly refresh hair between washes. You can then whip it up into a top knot for an instant no fuss, chic look.
Still feeling queasy? My dad would make me drink gingertea when I was feeling sick as a child. He never recommended it for hangovers, but I swear by it. Otherwise you can’t go wrong with a blue Powerade. But if none of the above works, then, yes, you are beyond repair or redemption, you really did drink too much and you should probably never do so again, easier said than done I know.
