Orange fake tan? Almost as bad as swearing in church on a Sunday...

1. Thou shall not wear skin products; such as deodorant, perfume, moisturiser or any products prior to a tan. Clean skin is the perfect canvas for a tan.

2. Thou shall exfoliate prior to getting a tan; remove dead skin cells to ensure an even, streak free tan.

3. Thou shall remove hair; It is best to remove hair the day before or the day of your tan, although not mandatory it is best to shave, wax, etc prior to tanning.

4. Thou shall wear loose fitting clothing after tanning; Black is ideal as some of the bronzer may rub off on clothing. It is also best not to wear a bra until the tan has developed.

5. Thou shall not fear; if the tanning product goes on your clothes or sheets – it comes straight off in the wash. Do not worry if it seems you have excess product in places, this is the bronzer and will come off in the shower.

6. Thou shall avoid water; straight after your tan avoid getting caught in the rain, washing the dishes (amen!) etc. Once you can show off your new tan, be careful not to soak in a spa or chlorine pool – this will strip your tan.

7. Thou shall moisturise; to maintain your tan and have it looking fantastic all the time, moisturise daily to get the best out of your tan.

8. Thou can be male or female; it’s just not females that need to feel good with a tan, men do too. So men, do not be afraid to get a tan – it is heavenly.

9. Thou can be pregnant; check with your local tanner to ensure the product is natural, if it is pregnant ladies do not need to miss out.
