The editors verdict: I loved this facial because it was not just a skin treatment - it was like a life coach, nutritionist and dermatologists appointment all in one. We really chatted in depth about my lifestyle and changes I could make for the good of my skin. Facials are fabulous, but you need to be able to continue taking great care of your skin after you leave the salon, and I left The Pureskin Clinic armed with information to help me do this. They don't push products on to you, but educate you on cheap, inexpensive ways to improve your skins health. The technology they have means they can really get tp the bottom of your skins condition and problems. I have never had an experience like this before and I cannot recommend it enough for both people with problem skin, and people who want to keep their skin looking great.
Situated in a grand old building in Ponsonby, Auckland is The Pureskin Clinic - a salon dedicated to helping clients achieve more beautiful skin.
My appointment came at the perfect time - two weeks of breakouts and dry skin had worn me down, and my hangover was not helping either!
I was booked in for a SuperMax7 treatment - a facial followed by a photodermatology session (light treatment of the skin).
The questionnaire you have to fill out before you start your treatment is very intensive - something that made me feel like me, and my skin were being taken very, very seriously.
The rooms are beautiful and peaceful and my therapist spent 15 minutes with me discussing my general health, diet, vices and exercise regime. Her knowledge base was amazing and she was able to give me some fantastic advice on my diet - and she backed her advice up with facts which was a great way to get me to actually pay attention to what I am eating and make some changes.
Next the oil and hydration levels of the skin on various parts of my face were measured and by this my therapist was able to make some more recommendations and tailor my facial to what was going on with my skin. The pores on my cheeks were enlarged and my skin was not retaining enough moisture - I need to introduce more Omega 3 and fatty acids in to my diet to help with this. I don't eat oily fish as I can't stand the taste so for me this will happen through the use of supplements that were also recommended to me.
At The Pureskin Clinic they use EmerginC products - a very active and effective range of professional skincare that, once a client understands how it works, is available for home use.
I had a light peel, exfoliation, extractions and lots of hydration - oh and my therapist even shaped my brows for me - now THAT is service!
After all the skin treatments she selected a light that suited my needs and then I lay back and slept while the Max7 light passed backwards and forwards over my face - you can't feel a thing.
Max7 uses LED (light emitting diode) technology, a scientific process that uses wavelengths in the visible light spectrum to send calibrated packets of light into the dermal layer, setting off a frenzy of cellular activity to produce softer, more youthful looking skin.
It works on the cellular level of the skin and has been proven to minimise age spots, scarring, and does wonders for acne. If you have teenagers with acne problems and have trouble pinning them down to recieve a treatment ( especially boys) the Max7 could be a great option for them.
Max7 is great if you have concerns about:
* Acne and recent scarring
* Redness and flushing
* Brown spots
* Skin texture and firmness
* Fine lines and wrinkles
* Large pores
* Dark under eye circles
And you don't need to have it in conjunction with a facial if you don't want to - you can just pop in and lie under the light!
