The skin care products we use can seriously make a difference to our skin (hopefully good), but if you are using the wrong products for your skin type then they may not have a positive impact.
Skin types can change with age or climate so you may find that you need to change your products as you get older or even just when the temperature changes.
Read the Beauty Bible guide to determine what skin type you are...
A really simple way to tell what skin type you are is to wash your face, pat dry and leave it for 20 minutes and then take the skin test.
Take some tissue paper and press on different parts on your face. If your skin is oily, the paper will stick, absorb oil and become translucent. If the paper doesn't absorb any oily spots, your skin is dry. If it sticks in your T-zone (nose, forehead and chin) then you have combination (or normal) skin. Combination skin is the most common type.
You will also find you have the following characteristics depending on your skin type;
Oily Skin
Oily skin tends to be shiny with enlarged pores, and is prone to blackheads and spots. Make-up slides off easily if it is not well-applied or suitable for oily skins.
Combination Skin
This common skin type has a smooth and even texture, good circulation and a healthy colour. It tends towards dryness on the cheeks and slightly enlarged pores, while being oily in the T-zone.
Dry Skin
Dry skin feels tight, especially after cleansing. You have a tendency towards fine wrinkles, flaking and red patches, and make-up may show up dry areas.
So next time you shop for skin care products, shop for your correct skin type for best results and a great complexion.
