Ever since I was a little girl following my mother round the makeup floor of a department store I have found it both exciting and endearing. With so many gorgeous colours and smells for me it’s almost impossible not to open my purse and part with my money! I know I am not alone in this, and many of you will know exactly what I mean, but there are however many women who when it comes to makeup shopping are completely baffled by the huge range of colours, textures and brands! So Beautybible has put together a guide to help you shop until you look drop dead gorgeous - check it out below:
•Firstly make sure you have a few hours to spare, especially if you are not entirely sure what you are looking for. It is best not to rush.
•Know your budget and don’t be afraid to tell the assistant what it is, they should help to find you something suitable within your price range.
•It is best to go along to the store with little or no makeup so that the makeup artist/sales assistant on the counter has a ‘blank canvas’ to work with and gets a better idea of your natural skin colour and skin type.
•If you have a look in mind that you are trying to create then take along a picture, just like you would to the hairdresser.
•Be prepared to answer the assistants questions, it’s important that they ask questions to make sure you are happy with your products.
•Have a list of questions you would like to ask them, for example you may want to know what shade of eye shadow would best compliment and enhance your eye colour so make sure you ask as they will have the answer!
•DO NOT buy a new product that you have not previously tried without the assistant trying this on you first, it might look great on someone else or in the tester pot but could be completely wrong for you.
•If they suggest other products that would suit you let them play round and apply these to you, you will often be pleasantly surprised by the outcome! Be trusting.
•When you have had makeup applied by an assistant ask them if you can borrow the mirror and take a look in natural light, this is important as can often look different when you are not under the shop lights.
•If you are unsure about something you have tried due to colour or texture then ask if you could have a sample and try it at home for a few days, don’t be embarrassed to ask for samples as by trying it for a few days is the only way you will be sure whether or not it is right for you.
•Ask the assistant for a lesson in the best way to apply your product and the best brush to use, often we use the same product for years but when showed a new technique in applying it you can really tell the difference and love the look even more!
•If you are happy with the help you received be sure to take the makeup artists name and go back to them, the more they see you the better they will get to know your skin type, colourings and what you like and dislike.
•Lastly, be open to suggestions, try new things and have fun!
