Hungover Skin? We Have The Solution!

December and January are always packed to the brim with cocktails, stress, and indulgently bad food. There’s no denying it’s a jolly time of year, but skin is often left dehydrated, puffy, and red. So here are some tips for looking gorgeous the day after - even if you were the life of the party.

Cleanse and Tone
Chances are you’ve probably gone to bed without removing your makeup the night before (naughty!), so go for it first thing in the morning. After a late night, opt for a mild cleanser that’s soap and sulfate-free. Skin is already dehydrated, so it’s best to steer clear of anything harsh. After cleansing, and before moisturising, use an alcohol-free toner with hyaluronic acid, an ingredient that binds 1,000 times its weight in moisture to the skin. A definite hangover must.

Use a Hydrating Mask
The best thing for hungover skin is a good facial.  We’re fans of Dermalogica Skin Hydrating Masque ($94). Try steaming your face after you’ve applied the product - your pores will open up, allowing the moisture to sink in.

De-Puff Eyes
We’ve all heard of the tea bag and cucumber remedies, but how about cold spoons?  Place small, rounded spoons in the fridge anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes.  Hold the rounded part against the swollen area under your eyes for a few minutes, and watch them deflate.

Brighten Eyes
Dehydration stops your tear ducts from working effectively, which is why your eyes feel dry and sore, and look red the morning after a late night. Using eye drops will help put back some of the lost moisture, and temporarily reduce redness. We always have a bottle of Clear Eyes on hand. Then put on some black mascara at the roots of your lashes. The contrast between the mascara and the whites of your eyes will automatically make eyes look brighter!
