What does a typical day for you involve?
There isn’t one. That is what I love about life, it is forever changing.
It could be that I’m at home working in my office, which is usually pretty low key and relaxed.
I could be on location in any part of the world shooting an advertising campaign. Of all places on this earth Queenstown is still one of the most amazing and spectacular to be shooting in. I could be on the set of NZ’s Next Top Model. I could be hanging out with my family. Surfing out at Karekare or the Coromandal, or hanging in a café drinking coffee.
Every day is different…

How did you get into photography?
I had been wandering and doing all sorts of work around the place. Living in Auckland, London, Capetown, Sydney… and Melbourne. It was in Melbourne that I sat down at my sister’s suggestion and did a mind map. From that I discovered the 3 things I’d be good at, and enjoy, were; Pilot, Adventure guide and Photographer…..
So off I went to Wellington Design School to study Photography

Career highlight so far?
Exhibiting a body of work titled ‘Somewhere in the middle of Nowhere’ in New York, opening night August 26th this year!!
Followed by shooting the Lexus Worldwide Campaign in Barcelona and Queenstown.

How do you look after your skin?
My skin has taken a bit of a hammering over the years, exposed to lots of NZ hot sun out in the surf. But over the last few years I’ve been a lot more careful. So I always wear sunblock. I have just discovered Kiehl’s Products and love them. I use a cleanser & a lightweight moisturizer. And moisturizer that has SPF 15 during the day.
Love their shampoos and body washes..
They have loads of fantastic products, I also use Lancome men’s products.

Do you have any favourite products or colognes?
I love Comme des Garsons Parfumes.

How do you stay in shape?
I go to the Gym a couple of times a week, and do lots of work around the SWISS ball and BOSU. Mostly focusing on core strengthening exercises.
Maybe run or go for a bike ride & surf at least once a week, but if I have the time 2 or 3 times and I’m doing really well.

What defines beauty to you?
I love seeing genuine confidence in woman.
Honesty and Integrity are beautiful.
And physically the eyes can be so alluring and expressive.

How did it feel to win one of just seven fine art citations at the PDN Curator Awards in New York?
Amazing. I was extremely wrapped and proud. I had to keep re reading the email for a couple of days to make sure I had not misunderstood.

You couldn’t live without?
My faith in God, keeps me grounded and gives me a place to base my existance from.
My wife Arlene, who I think is the most beautiful woman in the world. She is extremely supportive and encouraging. And I just love being around her.
My 2 girls, Jaime & Maddi. They remind me every day of the joy in the simplicities of life. And they challenge me to be authentic, and honest, and to lead my example.
My friends and family. Life is all about relationships.
Surfing. Gives me the chance to experience the freedom of living. The ocean is so organic and forever changing. I love it, it makes me feel alive.

Happiness is?
Laughing & Living in the moment.

Goals for the future?
Help my children to grow into their potential. And have fun with them. Show them that life is a gift and an adventure. That failure is all part of learning and creates character. To get up when they fall over & never give up. Encourage them to dream and chase those dreams.
I want to photograph in the Antarctica and exhibit the work.
I have started a project on family that I want to exhibit within the next couple of years.
Keep the international work coming in.
Focus more on creating and selling my work as art.
I have a book project in the planning stages that I want to publish.
