Full Moon Parties and images of Leo on The Beach, Thailand is the destination for sun, sand and relaxation. So when I spent 3 weeks in Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Koh Tao the last thing I thought I would find is my new fave beauty destination.

TOP 5 IN THAILAND BEAUTY

1. Massage, Massage, Massage. Everywhere you turn is someone willing to give you a massage for next to nothing. Street massages at the markets are about $4.50 an hour, at the spas you’ll pay around $35 –cheaper than what you get here in NZ. If you haven’t had a Thai massage before you might be in for a shock – you lie either on the floor or on a low bed, your masseuse will on the bed too, pulling you into all kinds of yoga-esk poses. If you love a firm massage definitely go for this, you’ll walk out feeling like a million. If aromatherapy is more your thing the Thai call that an ‘oil massage’ slightly more expensive at around $8 for an hour but equally as enjoyable.

2. Spa holiday. It’s not just the massage that’s cheap – try a spa day for only $100, including a full body scrub, massage, facial. And its Thailand after all, bartering is their way of life, ask for a discount you’ll probably get it.

3. Dr Fish.  You must do this in Thailand! Little Garra rufa fish are kept in glass tanks which you pop your feet into while they happily nibble away at any dead and dry skin. This is the most exciting foot exfoliation I’ve had!

4. Cosmetics. The malls in Thailand are unparalleled for price and selection. If you have pale skin this will be your mecca!  My favourites were the super cute Beauty Buffet and Oriental Princess.

5. Dentistry. Going to the dentist is never a pleasant experience, but in Thailand it’s a form of tourism so they do the best they can! Firstly, the best technology that we don’t even have here in NZ – you will feel like you’re entering Tron. The anaesthetic is strawberry flavoured, they will not tell you off for not flossing and everything is 1/3rd the price.
