Edie Sedgwick embodied the glamour of the late sixties. As an actress, model and Warhol muse, she dazzled the world with her ethereal beauty and original style. Sienna Miller recently brought Edie's look back to life in the movie Factory Girl, complete with the classic bleached blonde fringe, sooty eyes and pale frosty pout.Makeup has come a long way since the '60s! Back then foundation was pale and chalky, lipstick was thick and waxy and eyeshadow was literally painted on.
To become a modern Edie
Start with a light liquid foundation to even out the skin tone and leave a natural, dewy finish.
A touch of translucent powder will cut back any unwanted shine, and for just a hint of colour , some soft pink blush is applied to the apple of the cheek.
For the eyes, start by blending a white, matte shadow from the lid to the brow, followed by a soft grey through the socket. A dark charcoal shadow is then swept across the lid and smudged under the eye for extra intensity.
To add that sixties edge, trace a black liquid eyeliner along the top lid, flicking it up at the outer corner. To get the ideal shape, create a template by drawing your line with an eye pencil first, as this will make the job easier.
If you are not brave enough for a double set of false eye lashes, go to work with several coats of black mascara on your top and bottom lashes to create a wide-eyed effect, then a touch of white kohl pencil drawn inside the lower lid will make your eyes look bigger still.
The frosty lipstick of the sixties can look dated and unflattering, so keep lips sheer and glossy.
