Beauty Gets Scientific

O.K. ladies, bear with me for a moment here because I am about to get all scientific on you.

Yesterday I attended the launch of perhaps one of skincare’s best kept secrets, one that has been revered in the US for years. In fact, Oprah Winfrey herself refers to it as the secret weapon in her beauty arsenal.

Skin Medica is definitely a breakthrough in the science of skincare. After 18 years of research, Skin Medica has created a treatment that provides the skin with what it naturally uses to fight aging: Growth Factors.

Growth Factors are proteins that regulate cellular growth and skin cell turnover. Multiple Growth Factors are already present in the skin and work to maintain a healthy skin structure. Through the aging process, their production and levels in the body decrease, leading to typical signs of aging such as fine lines and wrinkles. So in order to fight the aging process, Growth Factors must be restored to the skin to promote renewal and repair. To put it simply, they are like ‘chemical messengers’ that kick start the skin to act as it did when it was younger.

What makes this range so unique is the unparalleled level of growth factors in the Tissue Nutrient Solution (TNS), 93.6%. The closest competitor has only 30%. TNS contains only substances that occur naturally in the skin, and is produced from a patented process using human ‘fibroblasts’ (cells that secrete collagen proteins that also play an important role in healing wounds and in this case have come from a foreskin) to maximise the concentration of Growth Factors.

The range includes the TNS Recovery Complex, used to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and overall texture of the skin, and the TNS Essential Serum, an anti-ageing skin regenerating serum. Also included is the TNS Eye Repair and TNS Line Refine, a small tube you can apply to the fine lines around the eyes and mouth. Skin Medica also includes a cleanser, toner and moisturiser.

FACTS:
1.
This face cream is made from foreskin fibroplasts.
2. A fibroblast is a piece of human skin that is used as a culture to grow other skin or cells.
3. SkinMedica products costs more than $100 US for a 63 oz bottle.
4. It is supposed to boost collagen production and can rejuvenate skin.
5. The cream does not contain any actual human tissue but only the growth hormone left over from growing artificial skin.
