Are you Missing a (Mascara) Trick?

Ever bought volumising or thickening mascara and been disappointed by it? Well, contrary to what you might think, you haven’t been duped by it – you just weren’t using it properly.
Oh, you heard me right. You’ve been doing your mascara wrong. In fact, the latest survey (performed by me) tells me 7 out of 8 of my friends are putting on their mascara wrong too. This is how you do it: you curl your lashes, then swipe on a coat or two of mascara, wiggling the wand through your lashes as you go, right?
Wrong.
If you’re not coating both sides of your lashes, you’re doing yourself, and your peepers, a disservice. Ever had your makeup done by a professional? They always make you look down to coat the top of your lashes, then up to coat the underside, right? Are you saying you know more than a makeup artist? That’s what I thought. Coating both sides of your lashes lets the formula cling all the way round, making your lashes thicker and, *added bonus!*, better able to hold curl.
Don’t worry – until about a year ago, I was doing it wrong too. And here’s the thing: it takes the same amount of time as your mascara always does, for a much better result. Just look down and gently swipe the mascara brush over the top of your lashes, then tilt your chin up, while still looking down, and do the underside, as you normally would.
Then…await compliments. And you’re done.
