Kelly Barriball is a lover not a fighter. She is a daydream believer. She loves to write. She talks in cryptic. Creativity is her passion. Beauty is her obsession. She doesn’t leave the house without mascara, blusher and sweet shoes. She loves the smell of rain almost as much as she loves staring at her unopened beauty products (packaging is just as important as practicality). She lives a champagne lifestyle on a beer budget and would rather eat white rice for a week so she can have the latest on her wish-list.
What does your job involve and what are your passions?
I predominantly wear two hats, 1. I am an account manager at v.marketing in Mount Maunganui where I plan, strategise, budget, conceptulise, execute, report, present and manage. We are an integrated agency who manages marketing, PR, advertising, web and design across a number of local and national clients. 2. I am a Director of gran’s loose change, an online vintage and second hand store that sells clothing, jewellery and accessories for both guys and gals. I source product, photograph, edit, upload, write descriptions, package, sell and manage the website, blog, social media, buyers and customers on a daily basis.
What’s your earliest makeup memory?
I was lucky to have supple and clear skin back in the good old days so didn’t start wearing makeup until my last year of high school really. I remember using far too much blusher and not enough mascara!
What are your top five indulgences?
Gamma Hydroxy Skin Resurfacer to keep my skin bright, bikram yoga to clear my mind and switch off from the daily grind, regular eyelash tints and waxes, OPI and Revlon nail polishes – I always have a colour on both my finger and toenails, and getting spare time to share with friends, family and JM. It’s an indulgence to get five spare minutes to sit and do nothing and enjoy time with the people I love.
Who is your beauty icon?
Natalie Portman for her timeless and classic beauty, Erin Wasson for her effortless beauty and Grace Kelly because she reminds me of my perfectly primped, preened and beautiful grandmother, Patricia Kelly (no relation by the way).
What are your must have beauty products?
Gamma Hydroxy Skin Resurfacer, Viktor and Rolf Flowerbomb perfume, YSL Touche Eclat concealer, Palmers Cocoa Butter body moisturiser, Benefit Moon Beam skin brightener and eyelash curlers.
Biggest hair/makeup disaster you’ve had?
After a bad break up, I decided to cut off the long dark hair that I’d been growing for the previous five years. And as well as that, decided to strip it from the dark brown I’d dyed it for ten years and bleach it to get it back to my natural blonde. The result? Ginger and boxy. Not cool. Did I mention I let my friend, (who is a very talented hairdresser by the way) cut it
whilst slightly drunk and I sat on a chest of drawers in a room with limited light. Not my best decision to date.
What are your thoughts on cosmetic surgery - would you? Have you?
I haven’t, but I might consider botox one day. Keep the wrinkles at bay and all that jazz. I definitely wouldn’t consider anything more, I think age shows experience and with that experience comes beautiful memories and I wouldn’t want to change that too much.
What is your top beauty tip?
Wash your face before bed, drink plenty of water, use an exfoliating face wash three times a week and always remember to moisturise your neck as well as your face – it’s the first sign of ageing (so my Gran tells me!)
What defines beauty to you?
Happiness, friendship, love, laughter, bright orange lips, long eyelashes, intelligence, awareness, loyalty.

Precleanse is my one beauty must have. Its quite expensive, most Dermalogica products are, but they work!
